Danny Compher

Music and Worship R&R Chair

Danny is presently the Director of Music and Worship Arts at Lake Magdalene United Methodist Church in Tampa. His last educational position was as a Peer Evaluator in Hillsborough County, where he worked with several hundred music teachers giving feedback concerning their classroom practice. Prior to that, he was the vocal music director and department chair at Chamberlain High School in Tampa, a position he held 26 years.

Danny has conducted All County ensembles on more than a dozen occasions and his choirs have been recognized throughout Florida and the southeastern United States as models of choral excellence. Choirs under his direction have been featured at the FMEA State Conference and have performed on four occasions for ACDA, including a performance at the Southern Division Conference in 2002.

Danny Compher received his Bachelor of Arts in Music Education and his Masters of Music from the University of South Florida. Throughout his career, he was active in the leadership of the Florida Vocal Association serving two terms as District Chair and serving on the state level as chair of various committees. He was President of the association from 2003-2005. As President of FVA, he represented the association serving on the executive boards of the Florida Music Educators Association and the Florida Schools Music Association. Additionally, Danny has served as the treasurer of Florida ACDA, has been an adjunct instructor at the University of South Florida and was inducted into the FVA Hall of Fame in July of 2017.

When not working with choirs, he can often be found on his kayak in the waters off the west coast of Florida!
