Dr. Trent Brown

Dr. Trent R. Brown, Director of Choral Activities and Associate Professor of Music at Florida Gulf Coast University, joined the Bower School of Music faculty in 2010. He directs the Chamber Choir and University Choir, and teaches courses in choral literature, conducting and secondary vocal methods. Before a career in academia Brown led high school ensembles in Minnesota and Wisconsin for eight years. He has presented ensembles at state conferences in Minnesota and Florida, and has led international tours to Austria, China, Czech Republic and Germany. As Musical Director & Chorus Master of Gulfshore Opera he has conducted fully staged professional opera and has prepared choruses for internationally acclaimed conductors. He has presented papers and interest sessions at state and national conferences, most recently the American Choral Directors (ACDA) National Symposium on American Choral Music in Washington DC and the College Music Symposium Rocky Mountain Conference in Denver. His articles appear in the International Journal of Research in Choral Singing and state and divisional ACDA publications. He holds degrees from the University of Arizona (D.M.A.), the University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee (M.M.) and the University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire (B.M.E.).
