The mission of the American Choral Directors Association is to inspire excellence in choral music through education, performance, composition, and advocacy.

Matthew Swope

Matthew Swope serves as Director of Choral Activities and Performing Arts Department Chair at Winter Park High School. He oversees a program consisting of eight curricular choirs and two contemporary a cappella groups—Take 7 as well as Naughty Scotty and the Octapella. Mr. Swope has also served on the voice faculty of Rollins College and the instructional staff of Camp A Cappella.

 

A native of Pennsylvania, Mr. Swope received the Master of Music degree in Voice Performance & Pedagogy and graduated Phi Beta Kappa with undergraduate degrees in Music and in Classics & Ancient Mediterranean Studies from The Pennsylvania State University. In 2013, he was the recipient of Penn State’s “Outstanding Alumni Music Educator Award.” Choirs under Mr. Swope’s direction have performed for the Florida American Choral Directors Association (2011, 2015, 2018), Florida Music Education Association (2016), National A Cappella Convention (2018), and International Championship of High School A Cappella Finals (2012, 2015). Groups have also been nominated for Contemporary A Cappella Awards and selected for compilations including Best of High School A Cappella, Voices Only, and WACA Vol. 5. Mr. Swope has presented sessions for ACDA, FMEA, and the Classical Association of the Middle West and South.

 

He was a founding member of the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers. Mr. Swope serves as the R&R Chair for Jazz and Contemporary/Commercial Choirs for Florida ACDA and on the Board of Directors for the A Cappella Education Association. He is a member of ACDA, AEA, NAfME, FMEA, FVA, NATS, and Pi Kappa Lambda.
