FLACDA Announces Annual Conference 2016

November 4-5, 2016, Seminole State College, Lake Mary, FL

“The Choral Musician’s Right to the Right Repertoire”

Please plan on attending our annual conference and begin booking accommodations now.  We have continued to have numerous choir and interest session applications, and this conference promises to fulfill the mission of ACDA in supporting and edifying you, and in providing continued resources for your choral programs.  The choirs selected by our blind, peer-review process for this conference are:

Sarasota Young Voices, conductor Genevieve Beauchamp

University of Central Florida Women’s Chorus, conductor Kelly Miller

Terrier Sound Combined Women’s Choir, conductor Minnie Orr

Martin County High School ‘Opus’, conductor Shane Thomas

Coral Reef High School Cuda Chorus Men, conductor Shanpatrick Davis

Highlighted Repertoire Sessions:

Sandy Hinkley will present: “Teaching Developmental Repertoire: A Hierarchy for Success”

Scott Leaman will present: “Robert Shaw, Man of Many Voices: A Film on the Music, Life, and

Legacy of Robert Shaw”  (FLACDA is funding this rare screening of the full documentary previewed at Southern Division Conference, and a reading session on standard and lesser-known Parker/Shaw settings follows.

Peter Steenblik will present: “Putting the Research back in Programming,” a reading session on expanding the search for the right repertoire.

….and other reading and repertoire sessions!

The Friday Evening Concert features the Puccini Messa di Gloria performed by the choir and orchestra of the Bach Festival Society of Winter Park.  They will also perform Spirit, a new composition by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Paul Moravec.

The High School Honor choir directed by Dr. Rick Bjella (Texas Tech University) and the Male Honor Choir conducted by Dr. Lon Beery (featured Alfred composer and Spry Middle School Teacher in NY) will certainly be a wonderful experience.
